how to post consistently when you have a 9-5

If you have a 9–5 and you’re trying to build a creative business online, I think it’s time we retire the idea that you have to post every day to be successful 🫣

Because realistically…if you’re working all day, coming home, making dinner, having a life AND trying to create quality content - posting 7x a week is probably not the most sustainable strategy.

And that’s okay!!

The goal isn’t to post as much as possible. It’s to create a rhythm you can actually maintain for the long-term. Your audience will understand if you take a bit more time to create something they will actually enjoy.

✨ So, here’s how I’d approach it:

1. Define what β€˜consistency’ looks like for you

I’d rather see you create 2-3 really thoughtful pieces of content a week than throw together 7 posts just because you think you β€œshould.”

Your consistency should be based on what you can realistically maintain for the next 6 months and beyond, not what someone on TikTok told you to do this week.

Maybe you batch your content on the weekend. Maybe you create a little bit each day. Maybe you only have time to film on Sundays.

There’s no one β€œright” way to do it, the goal is to find a rhythm that actually works with your life (and to not give up!!).

2. No more overcomplicating content creation

You don’t need to sit down every Sunday and magically come up with 15 brilliant ideas then write, shoot, edit, and schedule them all within the hour. It’s just not happening.

Keep a running Notes app note of:

– content ideas
– questions your audience asks
– things you want to talk about
– sounds/trends you actually like
– random thoughts you have throughout the day

Then when you do have time to create, you’re not starting from zero.

My favorite thing to do when I’m in a slump is to start with one post at a time.

The goal is to make creating content feel like a habit that exists within your life, not another job you have to clock into.

3. Throw out the rules until you find your rhythm (and then make up your own)

You don’t need to follow every trending audio, content challenge, or 30-day posting calendar.

Especially when you’re just getting started!

There are so many rules about what you β€œshould” be doing on social media that it’s easy to spend more time trying to follow the formula than actually creating.

And your creativity can’t possibly flourish when you’re constantly trying to follow someone else’s rules.

Pay attention to what feels right to you and what your audience responds to. Take the advice that helps, leave what doesn’t, and eventually start making up your own rules.

Remember, your strategy is a part of your lifestyle.

Summary

You don’t need to exhaust yourself every day to build a strong online presence. You need a system that you can actually keep up with.

Take it one post at a time. Post with intention.
Engage with your audience.

And let consistency look different for you than it does for everyone else.

Your 9-5 doesn’t mean you can’t build something of your own. It just means your content strategy needs to work with your life, not against it. 🀍
